Fattura Elettronica Pro: a Small Post-Mortem

Fattura Elettronica Pro was a small software project created to solve a very practical problem: reducing repetitive manual work for people using Fatture In Cloud, especially when they needed to create many electronic invoices from external sources such as Eventbrite.

The idea was simple: let the software do the boring part. Instead of manually creating dozens or hundreds of invoices, users could export the attendee list from Eventbrite, upload the CSV file to Fattura Elettronica Pro, review the collected billing data, and generate invoices more quickly.

What the software did

The main feature was the automation of electronic invoices for Eventbrite events. Event organisers could configure Eventbrite to collect the necessary Italian electronic invoicing data, such as PEC and SDI code, export the attendees list, and then use Fattura Elettronica Pro to prepare the invoices for Fatture In Cloud.

Over time, the project also explored other small automations around Fatture In Cloud, such as recurring invoices with variable details and reports for accountants. The common goal was always the same: save time, reduce repetitive work, and make existing accounting workflows smoother.

How it was built

The public website and blog were used to explain the workflow, publish tutorials, and collect early user feedback. The blog documented the process step by step: how to configure Eventbrite, how to export the CSV file, and how to use Fattura Elettronica Pro to generate invoices.

The application itself was designed as a companion tool rather than a replacement for Fatture In Cloud. It focused on importing structured data, validating it, transforming it into invoice-ready information, and sending it or preparing it for the invoicing workflow.

Privacy was also an important part of the design. The original service explained that data was transmitted through HTTPS/SSL and that uploaded CSV data was not permanently stored on the server. This was important because the tool handled personal and billing information.

What I learned from users

Fattura Elettronica Pro was used by different people for several years. Their feedback helped identify bugs, edge cases, missing fields, confusing steps, and opportunities to improve the workflow. In many ways, the project became better because real users tested it with real invoices, real events, and real business needs.

That was one of the most valuable parts of the project: it was not built in isolation. It improved through usage, corrections, and conversations with people who simply needed the software to save them time.

Why the project was closed

After some years, I decided to close the project. The main reason was maintenance. Integrations with external services require continuous updates, especially when APIs change, authentication flows evolve, or accounting platforms introduce new requirements.

At a certain point, Fatture In Cloud updated its APIs, and the service stopped working as expected. Properly rebuilding and maintaining the integration would have required more time and attention than I could realistically dedicate to the project.

Rather than keeping an unreliable service online, I chose to suspend it and eventually close the project.

Looking back

Fattura Elettronica Pro was a small but useful automation tool. It solved a concrete problem, helped people avoid repetitive work, and gave me the opportunity to learn from real users and real operational constraints.

Even if the project is no longer maintained, I still consider it a valuable experience. It showed how much value can be created by connecting existing tools, removing friction from repetitive tasks, and listening carefully to the people who use the software every day.

In the end, Fattura Elettronica Pro was not just about invoices. It was about a simple principle that still matters to me: software should work for people, not the other way around.
