My journey as a Game Developer began with Mangatar in 2010, the goal was to create a social-game centered around Japanese Manga-style avatars.

The project required the use of Javascript frameworks that, through HTML5 Canvas/WebGL, would allow us to realize all the gameplay dynamics we had in mind.

With web technologies very immature, especially on mobile, creating a game that could run on desktop and mobile, in 2011, was a very difficult task. I was in charge of making a graphics engine that would work with Canvas and resolve the performance problem and the screen resolution problem to be solved on all devices. The graphics engine leveraged Canvas to draw elements in vector graphics.

The game was made in collaboration with SpinVector and Mare Digital to recreate life in marginal environments in ancient Egypt.

Entirely realised with Unity3D, the game has a didactic purpose based on studies by the University of Naples, in which an attempt is made to explain how, in ancient Egypt, they exploited the slope and bulkheads to irrigate fields and grow wheat.

The objective of the game is to harvest a specific amount of wheat. As there is a shortage of water, you have to find the right balance between which and how many fields to sow and irrigate, trying to prevent the plants from suffering, drying out and being eaten by pigeons.

Frontend developed in Angular that integrates with the Google Workspace API to enrich the information displayed and cross-reference the school structure data
Backend API developed in PHP using the Laravel framework, which allows the school structure to be created and mapped with the Google Workspace
Backend jobs still developed in PHP and Laravel framework but taking care of all the massive and asynchronous actions with the Google API, they also integrate an event broadcastig system using EchoJS Pusher

With the guys from Just Funny Games, we worked on the development of a version of SBK Official Mobile Game, in particular, I performed tasks of:

Study and development of modules for the implementation of standard “Game Modes” for 2-wheel Racing games (e.g., Time Attack and Quick Race)
Realization of modules for importing standard 2D graphics used for setup of different areas of racing games (e.g., Menu and HUD)
Experimental activity aimed at reengineering the automation of the development process and for importing and manipulating 2D and 3D graphic assets in the above mentioned and developed software modules.
Fine-tuning of the different parameters of the process with the aim of optimizing the performance and throughput of the application
Creation of prototypes for experimental testing to be produced, both from a functional and performance point of view

Technologies used

The video game was created as part of the campaign Be Aware. Be Digital. promoted by Homeland Security, with the aim of raising awareness among Italian students of the positive and conscious use of the Internet and new technologies.

The game is a cyberpunk-style action adventure platformer. We are in the year 2088, Cybercity is a city where technology has transformed the lives, habits and social interactions of the inhabitants. The unscrupulous Asterio Taur, CEO of the eponymous Taur Corp - the villain of the game - has become governor thanks to his criminal use of the Net. It is up to Tes and Diana - the two protagonists of the game - to secure the city, solving puzzles, defeating enemies in hand-to-hand combat or making use of futuristic weapons that they will discover on their way through the various game levels.

VG5 - More than 250 top quality games for FREE

In this project, a mobile application for Android was realised in which it was possible to play more than 250 games from different categories for free. In the realisation of the application, the Ionic Framework was exploited, as the games were entirely developed in HTML5. Customisation work was done on the plugin, which was responsible for displaying a web view within the app to allow communication via the latter with the game being launched. User profile features were integrated to save game scores, global leaderboards and a follower/following friendship system to create leaderboards between friends and challenge them in different games. For the backend infrastructure, an instance on Miscrosoft Azure of Node.JS with Cosmos DB database was used.

Technical details

A Javascript library Pixi.JS was used, which simplifies some operations on the HTML Canvas, together with jQuery for some simple operations on the DOM, and on the backend side a support plugin was developed for Wordpress, therefore in PHP, for saving the generated image and configuration within the WooCommerce data structures.

All The Answers was an iOS application developed together with DDT Network. The application had more of a social statistical purpose than a business purpose in that people could ask anything and would receive an answer by e-mail from ‘wise men’.

Url.oO is a free app that allows you to send a message (via push notification) to everyone around you within a certain distance. It’s super easy to use: choose your nickname, write your message (of 140 characters) and then choose the distance of the shout. There are screams of three levels (110 km, 220 km and 550 km) that unlock as the app is used. Each user has a score that increases each time a shout is sent and each ’like’ received on the shout. The shout-outs received can then be ‘bounced’ to make them go further. You can link your Twitter and Facebook accounts to automatically share sent urloos. Url.oO allows you to send messages to people around you via push notifications, even if you don’t know them. It’s like shouting out the window, but much much louder. Open Url.oO, choose a suitable nickname, write a message, choose how far you want to be heard and press the shout button. In Url.oO you have the possibility to choose how far you want ‘your voice’ to reach. There are 3 screams, one more powerful than the other, which you can use as you accumulate points. You accumulate points every time you: send a url.oO, listen to a url.oO and someone likes a url.oO of yours. All these points will be used to unlock new, more powerful urls. Url.oO uses GPS to establish your position and check who is around you, this is also done when you close the application, but don’t worry about battery consumption, the application uses the power-saving mode of GPS which only detects large movements (greater than 3km). All these functions can be deactivated from the settings screen.
